Worked stage example

A £9,000 installation is billed as £1,800 deposit, £4,500 when equipment reaches site and £2,700 after commissioning. Each invoice names the milestone and deducts prior payments from the account summary.

Identify the installed equipment

Show the panel quantity, inverter or battery model and system reference used in the quote. Do not rely on “solar installation” as the only description.

Customer-supplied or grant-funded amounts

Record who is paying each part and which legal customer receives the invoice. Do not net an expected grant or finance payment off the invoice unless the arrangement supports it.

Handover documents

Reference and attach the documents you agreed to supply, such as commissioning information, warranties, test records and system handover pack. Do not claim accreditation or certification not actually issued.

Variations

Roof condition, cable routes, distribution-board changes and battery changes can alter the scope. Record and approve the price before adding it to the invoice.

VAT and CIS

Use the VAT treatment that applies to the supply in 2026; do not assume one rate for every solar job. Commercial construction work may also involve CIS or the VAT domestic reverse charge. Check the parties and contract separately.

Final check

  • Is the property and design revision shown?
  • Are equipment models and quantities clear?
  • Are access and electrical work included?
  • Are deposits deducted?
  • Are variations approved?
  • Are handover documents attached?
  • Is VAT treatment correct?
  • Are CIS and reverse charge checked where relevant?
  • Is the due date printed?
